Join South Haven Indivisible, Indivisible Paw Paw, and the VB County Dems, to help protect the upcoming mid-term elections!  Indivisible Paw Paw and South Haven Indivisible are teaming up with the Van Buren Dems to offer two opportunities to keep an eye on the local elections. We need volunteers  to cover as many polling stations in Van Buren county as possible.  The priority is to have people at the polls on Nov 3, but we would like to cover early voting as well if we have the volunteers. The two ways you can help are:

Poll Challenger  You will be trained and credentialed by the Michigan Dems to be an observer stationed inside a polling station to monitor election procedures and ensure that voting laws are followed. The training is online at your convenience. You must complete training by October 10. Please contact Deb Wild at vbdvote@gmail.com if you are interested.

Poll Monitor You will be trained by the non-partisan voting rights group Common Cause of Michigan. You will be stationed outside a local polling station to assist voters, answer questions, and spot problems. You will have access to the Common Cause hotline for support and to report issues. We also need people to be “roving monitors” who would drive to several polling locations and do quick surveys, and people for early voting monitoring. We want to have people working in pairs. The training is online, at your convenience.

Should Michigan hold a constitutional convention to draft a general revision of the state constitution?

Every 16 years, the Michigan Constitution automatically places the 1st question on the ballot in the general election, asking voters whether they want to hold a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) to amend the state constitution. 

Right now, everyday Michiganders have control of making changes to the constitution through a fair process of voting on targeted amendments that get put forward during elections.

A Con-Con would open up our entire constitution at a time when the government is hotly divided.

Politicians and their wealthy donors want to lock voters out while they overhaul and rewrite the state constitution to promote their own interests - not the will of everyday Michiganders. Delegates could write their own rules and agendas with no transparency, accountability or oversight. 

A bipartisan coalition including groups like ACLU of Michigan, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters, and Voters not Politicians along with 60+ other organizations throughout the state is urging all of us to Vote NO.

If you need one more reason: Michigan can’t afford a Con-Con.

The convention would cost nearly $80 million in taxpayer dollars, taking that money away from efforts aimed at solving real problems impacting Michiganders every day.
